HAL-CON SCI-FI FANTASY AND COMIC CONVENTION
The biggest, geekiest sci-fi convention in Atlantic Canada Hal-Con is a sci-fi, fantasy and gaming convention run completely by much-too-dedicated volunteers. They are community focused, participating in many events around the Halifax Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia (such as other festivals, parades, and gaming events). Aired for the first time October 27, 1966 (ABC) It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a prime time animated television special based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz, A Halloween special, it was the third Peanuts special (and second holiday-themed special, following A Charlie Brown Christmas) to be produced and animated by Bill Melendez. The special features music composed by jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, whose contributions include the theme song “Linus and Lucy”.

On October 28, 1991, the so-called “perfect storm” first formed. It hit the North Atlantic producing remarkably large waves along the New England and Canadian coasts. Over the next several days, the storm spread its fury over the ocean off the coast of Canada. The fishing boat Andrea Gail and its six-member crew were lost in the storm. The disaster spawned the best-selling book The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger and a blockbuster Hollywood movie of the same name.
