Canada Day recognizes the birthday of our country. On July 1, 1867 Canada became a new federation with its own constitution by signing the Constitution Act - formerly known as the British North America Act. The name “Canada” comes from the Huron-Iroquois word “Kanata” meaning “village” or settlement.” Today is one of those days where we get to take a look into the telescopes of the past. HAPPY 52nd BIRTHDAY! The A. Murray MacKay Bridge, known locally as "the new bridge", is a suspension bridge linking the Halifax Peninsula with Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and opened on July 10, 1970. It is one of two suspension bridges crossing Halifax Harbour, its counterpart, the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge, having been completed in 1955. The bridge carries on average 52,000 vehicle crossings per day, and is part of Nova Scotia Highway 111.

13th Anniversary – PAUL McCARTNEY on the HALIFAX COMMON

July 11 2009, a performance by Paul McCartney drew a crowd of 50,000+ to the Halifax Common. Two local acts were given the opportunity of a lifetime -- to open for the rock legend. Anniversary – LIVE AID

July 13

Live Aid was a benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, as well as an ongoing music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. Billed as the "global jukebox", the event was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, UK, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, US, attended by exactly 89,484 people.

HALIFAX PRIDE FESTIVAL 2022 The Halifax Pride Festival is an annual 11 day gathering in the Halifax Regional Municipality for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. It features over 150 community and Pride organized events celebrating the history, culture, activism, and perseverance of the queer community. Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that first landed humans on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin formed the American crew that landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20, 1969, at 5:17pm (ADT). Catherine Bush CBE (born 30 July 1958) is an English singer, dancer, songwriter, and record producer. Bush began writing songs at 11. She was signed to EMI Records after Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour helped produce a demo tape.
