Birthday – NATHAN MacKINNON (26)

Nathan Raymond MacKinnon (born September 1, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey center and alternate captain of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL). MacKinnon was born in Springhill, NS and grew up playing in the minor ice hockey system of Cole Harbour. Considered one of the best players in the league, MacKinnon was selected first overall by the Avalanche in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

SWISSAIR Flight 111 (1998)

September 2, 2021

Swissair flight 111 crashed on September 2, 1998, off the coast of Nova Scotia, killing all 229 on board. The subsequent investigation determined that faulty wires caused the plane's flammable insulation to catch fire. Two memorials to those who died in the crash were established by the Government of Nova Scotia. The Battle of the Atlantic was not won by any Navy or any Air Force, it was won by the courage, fortitude and determination of the British and Allied Merchant Navy.
