POISON PREVENTION WEEK

For Poison Prevention Week (PPW) this year, the IWK Regional Poison Centre and Child Safety Link (CSL) would like to remind everyone that they can prevent poisonings at home.

The goal of this year’s campaign theme, Lock it, Label it, Store it, is to educate parents and caregivers about safe storage tactics that can make their homes more safe, and to dispel certain common myths about cannabis poisoning.

The IWK Regional Poison Centre receives hundreds of calls every year about children who have accessed poisons in the home.
In 2021, the Poison Centre recorded an 83 per cent increase in the number of cases regarding children eating cannabis edibles—a trend that continues to increase every year since legalization.
