Savage Re-Elected Mayor; Two Incumbents Lose Seats in Halifax

Mike Savage has been re-elected mayor of Halifax. Savage won handidly over challenger Lil MacPherson capturing roughly 69-percent of the vote. Incumbents returning to council include: David HENDSBEE (District 2); Bill KARSTEN (acclaimed District 3); Lorelei NICOLL (acclaimed District 4); Tony MANCINI (District 6); Waye MASON (District 7) who easily survived a challenge by former councillor Sue Uteck. Also returning are: Steve Adams (winner District 11); Russel Walker (District 10); Matt Whitman (District 13 Hammonds Plains); Steve Craig (unchallenged and acclaimed District 15); and Tim Outhit (acclaimed District 16). Meanwhile, a pair of running incumbents lost their seats last night – District 9’s Linda Mosher lost a close race to newcomer Sean Cleary; and Brad Johns lost his seat in District 14 to Lisa Blackburn. Newcomers joining council in seats left open by councillors that didn’t reoffer are: Steve STREATCH (District 1); Sam AUSTIN (District 5) in Gloria McClusky’s old district; Lindell SMITH (District 8); and well known media personality Richard ZURAWSKI (in District 12).
