Halifax Home of Former Abortion Clinic Torn Down

A controversial piece of Halifax’s history was torn down on Friday to make room for the expansion of a North End car dealership. The house that was home to the Morgentaler abortion clinic on McCully Street was torn down yesterday. The private clinic opened in 1989 during a heated national debate on abortion and eventually closed in 2003 after abortions became publicly funded procedures conducted in hospitals. The demolition was part of Steele Honda’s controversial plans to expand it’s dealership.
