NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR ORDER OF NS

Nova Scotians are encouraged to nominate an exceptional member of their community for the Order of Nova Scotia.

Now in its 20th year, the order is the province’s highest honour and recognizes outstanding citizens for making significant and lasting contributions to their communities. Past recipients have included a Nobel Prize Laureate, academics, athletes, volunteers, advocates and artists.

“As the Chancellor of the Order of Nova Scotia, I believe it is important to see nominations of citizens who have excelled in their chosen field of endeavour or have championed a cause that has benefited Nova Scotians,” said Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc.  “As we celebrate 20 years of excellence, I am greatly impressed by those who have been appointed to the Order of Nova Scotia. Their accomplishments are indeed amazing, and they are exemplary citizens.”

“The 20th anniversary of the Order of Nova Scotia is a time for all of us to appreciate the Nova Scotians who inspire us. From household names to community heroes, they demonstrate the strength and determination that make us all proud,” said Premier Stephen McNeil.

Nominations will be accepted by mail, fax or email until March 19. Nomination forms are available at Access Nova Scotia, Province House in Halifax, MLA and MP offices, municipal offices and online. To re-nominate someone, a photocopy of the previous nomination package with a new nomination form may be submitted.

Quick Facts:
— since its creation in 2001, 110 members have been appointed to the order, including 12 posthumously
— a ceremony is conducted each year in the fall to formally invest new members of the order. The 2020 ceremony was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will be rescheduled
