HRM’s NEW PARKING PAYMENT SYSTEM

Starting today, there are no more individual pay meters in the HRM.

Instead, there are pay stations that use a pay-by-plate, pay-by-zone system with more payment options like credit card, debit card and digital smart payment.

Here’s how it works:

Parts of the peninsula have been divided up into zones  A, B, C, D, E, F and G.  It costs $2 an hour to park for the first two hours and $6 an hour after that, with a maximum of 4 hours in any zone.  Downtown Dartmouth is Zone H, which costs $1.50 an hour for the first two hours and $4 an hour after that, with a maximum of 4 hours in the zone.

Rather than paying for a specific space, your payment will now be attached to the vehicle.  This way you can move freely within a zone without being charged again.

Once you park, pay by coin, debit or credit at the nearest pay station or on your smartphone if you have the HotSpot app.

Either way,  you will need to know your vehicle’s license plate number and the parking zone you are in.
